Old hotel in need of TLC and upkeep but large, clean rooms with amazing ocean view right on boardwalk at a reasonable price. Definitely a diamond in the rough. They provide beach chairs and umbrella to enjoy the water which is just a few hundred feet in front of the hotel. Here was what was good about this hotel: location, clean towels, clean sheets. The fridge was great too once I found it (hidden inside a dresser?!) Overall was very pleased with the room, location and price and would stay again. There are some really dumpy places on Hollywood beach and the Sheldon is far superior. Hotel needs some work physically. Staff was fairly nice. We did try to extend stay one night and booked a room at front desk only to find out the next morning that the hotel was sold out and the lady did not see our extra night. Very frustrating. Was not offered any help or options.

We stayed for five days. The hotel is right next to Hollywood Beach Park. The hotel was the first one built along Hollywood Beach and the Broadwalk, in the 1940's. The management has been renovating the hotel, but we didn't experience any construction while we were there. The Hollywood Trolley operates three lines on Wednesday through Sunday, all of which stop on Johnson Street, about 50-60 yards from the hotel entrance on Surf Road. Hotel is in a great location and has just been renovated. Beautiful art deco exterior with direct access to the beach. Only downside is that it could be quite noisy at night with people walking by shouting and laughing on their way home.

Given that the lobby was like a war zone due to construction, the staff did a decent job. More chairs on the back door deck or in the lobby space would help, while waiting around. We had to ask for a luggage rack and, with 3 in the room, it was crowded. It would help if there were hairdryers provided, too. The bathroom definetey awaits a reno. View is great. Wish there was an outdoor space (balcony or patio) to sit out and watch the world go by. Only two good things about this hotel... location and ah, ah, ah... sorry, there's only one! Tiny toilet was a foot off the floor in a tiny bathroom with 3" of caulking everywhere. No exhaust fans! Electrical wires running to ceiling lights... huge electrical boxes sticking out of the walls... scuffed, dirty and damaged doors and walls... dirty gout […] on the tile floors. Do not look in the corners, especially in the elevator! Tiny TV... refrig was off balance... no hair dryer in room. No one answers the front desk if you call after 10pm. Why would you call? Drunken brawls, fights, screaming and crying women you swear are in your tiny bathroom... all night long! We stayed two nights too long and got very little sleep. The noise inside the hotel at night was frightening. They do suppy beach chairs and towels. The chairs are tiny, low and rusted folding beach chairs... once you sit & sink in the sand you have to roll out of the chair to get up. The beach towels are worn & thin Goodwill rejects. The employees will tell you that the hotel is being renovated... has been four years and still no improvement on the interior, but the exterior looks great! It is hard to rate this Hotel because it is in the process of renovation. It was built in the 1940's so it certainly isn't modern or have all the whiz bang things a more recent built hotel would have.
