This is a timeshare establishment that has recently undergone management changes and has serious drawbacks. First, the place is really spread out up a steep hill, so what should be an elevator ride to the lobby becomes a $2 tip and call-in-advance doorman shuttle to the main building. Might work if you had your own rental car, but if you've got that, […] there are better places. Second, they deal with you like timeshare visitors, not hotel guests. Maid service only twice a week, picky about little details (you're expected to inventory the pots, pans, and dishes both in and out, etc.) Finally, the posted opening hours of the various bars and restaurants are "advisory" at best. Excellent time in St. Maarten and at the Simpson Bay Resort & Marina. I would stay again and again. Location was great -close to lots - restaurants, shopping, other beaches and airport. Accommodations were very very nice - large unit with good amenities. Maid service was excellent, friendly staff - other than the daily climb up the hill to our unit […] - I would recommend it highly. I am at a loss how to rate it. I was going to stay in a hotel but got a vacation rental! Meaning that some of the questions regarding the rating are not applicable. The room was clean when I arrived - but after that it was up to me to keep it clean or dirty. There is literally no service at all. There is a stock of towels, shampoo, etc - so you are […] ok for a few days. This worked for me as I came for diving mostly and it was done from their own marina. Also I rented a car - and I must tell you that going to the beach on foot should you want it is some exercise. So if you are looking for a resort this is not a place for you. And I think that as a vacation rental it is a bit too expensive. Last thing (probably not the least one) is Internet, or rather lack of it. It is free but it is so slow that one is not even able to check mails (you can do that if you have a lot of time during the day or stay awake in the middle of the night - other times forget about it). The initial room we were given was filthy, the toilet didn't work, and the shower didn't have hot water. We asked for them to move us that night, and they told us that they wouldn't because it was too late. It was only around 9 PM. We got great prices and were probably in an older section of the resort but our apartment was spotless and very comfortable. All city view rooms seem to overlook the pools, which was great. We had the apartments up the hill next to the Casino. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 pull out beds. large kitchen great balcony. Casino, Supermarket, French restaurant, Fine Dining Restaurants and 3 poolbars with HH, easy access to the sea and beach.

The resort has very nice grounds and a great beach. The room are just okay but they were clean. The location of this resort is terrific. There is much to do in Simpson Bay and Phillipsburg is only about 15 minute. We would stay at this hotel again.

The room was nice, although there are some things to be aware of before booking.this is a timeshare property, and there are different rules compared to a hotel. The complex is built on a huge hill, so getting to your room will be a challenge if you are not a cross fit champion. Finally the wifi, which is advertised as free,is like going back to 1985' and it would be quicker to mail a letter than send an email... Work is not possible using the wifi, so if you want to be disconnected with the real world this is an ideal property for you. We had mixed feelings. At first, we were in a room that was not described to us correctly. There was no balcony or tub etc. The hotel also said we had to move our room mid way during our stay. After spending half a day locating a manager, they switched us to a better room. Booking sight unseen ... it works. Laid over for a Curise, place met my expectations. Not sure a extended stay is in my future, but the staff was nice, they fixed a malfuntioning toliet immediately. Stayed in older non reconditioned unit area, but close to the water, so no hike required ( large complex ) So I have no issues.

the staff was very helpful. The room was a older model. They only came to clean the room once....other then that I would recommend the resort. They are in the process of upgrading the older rooms.

We got an upgrade to a much closer room that didn't involve climbing way up to the "B" building, thank goodness, but our digs were outdated and had an awful musty odour and a loud airco. Simpson Bay Resort & Marina is a convenient, nice and affordable place to stay in St. Maarten, an expensive island to vacation on. The full kitchen is a plus to cook at home and eat well for little money. However, I thought it was a bit strange that my room was never cleaned during my stay. The free wifi was really slow.

The hotel is outdated (furniture has to be around 20-25yrs old) my room was a 10min walk, and employees were not cordial or showed any interest in making a guests stay more comfortable.. If Sint Maarten is really the "friendly island" this hotel did not show it.

At first we were skeptical to book due to previous reviews that we read, but they did not do this place justice. The island is incredible and our view from the room was breath-taking. Great stay Perfect safe location with room overlooking the ocean. Nice pools but one of them was a little dirty on our last day. The picture Expedia presents doesn't show that the hotel is high above the beach. We and 2 pairs of our friends where given rooms on the first floor with a wall in front of our windows, so sitting in the patio we could only look at the white wall . If you raise your head , you could see the sky. Felt like you are in a cellar, and more than half rooms […] in the hotel were vacant all that week. very disappointed with the hotel.it was exhausting trying to get around with all the hills and no direct access to anything. Being on the marina was nice and made booking boat trips easy. Going across to Marigot was a pleasant surprise but not enough to go back to this hotel.

My stay started off rocky due to being booked into a room different than what I booked. Once that was straight and the managers were very accommodating to resolve the issue then my stay was much better. The beach was nice but very crowded. Front Desk tried to put us in a room that was in an area of refurbishment. Initial room was not even made up and smelled horrificly of chemicals. It took us almost two hours to check in because we would not accept the quality of our room or our location. The concierge finally intervened on our behalf. we were only staying one nite so the hotel amenaties were not important. the pictures of the rooms were a little deceiving(again no big deal) the rooms a/c worked awesome. long walk to anywhere.over all i was pleased, if we went again i would stay in the hotel proper not the back up the hill around the corner room we stayed in.

The rooms are quite clean and equipped with sufficient towels for a few night stay. There is a separate few for housekeeping if you want your room cleaned on a daily basis. Saint Martin (French side) Sint Maarteen is a wonderful 37 sq mile island. It is wonderful to visit. The beaches are beautiful, great restaurants, friendly people and lots of attractions.

The property is spread out and if you can not walk three long blocks uphill this is not the place for you. it is an old property and there is much need of repair the room was clean and in resionably good shape. If you are looking for a cheap one night stay it is fine but walking 3-6 blocks for everything would get old.

The brochure does not adequately match the actual resort. The room was in desperate need of updating. Was traveling alone and requested a room on the 2nd or 3rd floors, expressed my concern for safety etc., but was told that this was a safe place with 24 hr. security. My sliding glass door lock was broken and a piece of wood held the door shut. My ground […] floor view was a chainlink fence and razor wire with a slice of a view of the ocean if you look real hard. Frankly I was expecting so much more than this sad reality. The brochure is very misleading. Hotel staff acted as if it was a huge inconvenience whenever I had any questions regarding activities or hotel policies. The concierge was terribly rude. I inquired as to why I was unable to connect with the internet from my room as was advertised and she informed me that my room must be too far for the signal to reach. They offered no solution for me so I had to bring my laptop all the way down the hill to the building where the lobby was located to do some work. I had hoped to take care of in the privacy of my room. In all, this property and its staff was a huge letdown. I would not recommend this hotel unless you are a timeshare owner.
