Kathmandu Guest House has everything going for it but its service is erratic. On this trip we stayed in two other hotels in Nepal both of which far surpassed this hotel in the quality of service. Just one example, we had paid extra for the room for our son but strangely, hotel staff refused him the complimentary breakfast, which left a little bad taste […] in our mouth. The highlight of the hotel was the location and the beauty of it. Located in Thamel which is the tourist district of kathmandu, central to most tourist attractions. The pick up from the airport was punctual. The room was extremely ordinary (2 star) with views of a brick wall with bird droppings, the pigeons arrived after dusk. From listening to conversations at the check in counter, I think when you make a booking online for this hotel, you are paying extremely inflated prices.

We stayed five nights at the KMG and thought it was a nice place. The building reminded me of a scaled down version of Raffles hotel, in appearance, but certainly not the same high quality! The lobby and restaurant always had power, but the rooms only emergency power for about 18 hours per day. Nepal struggles to provide power for the whole country. The internet was also slow. Breakfast was pretty good and there was always plenty- important for the trekkers! It was served in a nice outdoor area near the entrance, but well back from the road. Loved my stay at KGH. It is perhaps more suited to travellers than families. Rooms are very basic be aware, and bathrooms need upgrading. Overal fab location, good backpacking atmosphere, reception staff great, taxi guys great, breakfast great. But money needs to be put back into the hotel.

Considering how poor the country is, the hotel was adequate. Daily power outages of ten hours per day is certainly not the hotels fault, and I guess it adds to the uniqueness of traveling to Nepal. You are in the heart of the tourist area, so it is very handy in that regard. I would recommend staying there, but there are better places for less money. The Kathmandu Guest House is conveniently located in a very touristy part of Kathmandu. The rooms are relatively clean and simple and the gardens are beautiful. There are Grauman's Chinese-style footprints in the courtyard of Jeremy Irons and Ricky Martin but I guarantee you the didn't stay in a room like mine. The hotel is located in the middle of all the fun and activity. The hotel is kept clean. the open air resturant is goog except it could do with an occasional change of table linen. Disappointing. Our rooms were not cheap (two standard rooms for two adults and four children) but they had views of brick walls and no balcony or outside space. They seemed run-down and didn't even have fans. We found the restaurant over-priced so we ate out throughout our three-day stay (a simple breakfast was more expensive than an evening meal elsewhere […] and the cups of coffee are small and overpriced.) The hotel WiFi is slow and expensive when other hotels and restaurants nearby provide free WiFi. Staff are friendly enough but too busy to give any real individual attention to guests. On our return to Kathmandu we stayed in the nearby Kathmandu Resort Hotel which was far more comfortable and more reasonably priced. I've stayed in the Kathmandu Guest House previously and it's always been slightly disappointing. This time it was even more so (perhaps because it was the peak season and because I was with my family so less tolerant of its shortcomings.) I'd recommend shopping around. Arrived at the airport to find shuttlebus had already left with passengers and we had to wait an hour to be picked up. Check in was straight forward. Sehr gute Lage. Unzuverlässige Reservierung der Zimmer. Die Rezeption scheint routinemäßig Doppelreservierugen vorzunehmen und die Touristen an ein beachbaetes Hotel "auszulagern". Sonst schöner Gastgarten und Garten. Flughafenshuttle ist nur als pick up vom International Airport inkludiert.

Zunächst wurden wir,wie bereits in Tripadvisor beschrieben, trotz der Buchung an ein benachbartes Hotel verwiesen ( offensichtlich Doppelbuchung). Auf nochmaliges Nachfragen schien man einen Irrtum in der Schreibweise meines Namens bemerkt zu haben und wir bekamen das gebuchte Zimmer im ersten Stock. Sehr zu empfehlen ist das Zimmer 205, mit relativ […] neuem Bad und glattem Holzfußboden und Doppelbett. Das Hotel ist perfekt in Thamel gelegen. Het hotel was comfortabel, gelegen in een leuke buurt op korte afstand van bezienswaardigheden en de tuin is een aanrader. De prijs-kwaliteit verhouding in het algemeen is matig. Voor hetzelfde geld is een betere kamer verkrijgbaar op een vergelijkbare locatie. Het vervelende aan het hotel was de service. Bij aankomst bleek het hotel overboekt. Niet […] alleen voor ons, maar ook voor 12 andere personen. Tijdens ons verblijf bleek dit elke dag hetzelfde liedje. De staf deed behulpzaam en bleef vriendelijk, maar beloofde van alles om dit vervolgens niet na te komen of beloofde dit aan andere gasten. De kwaliteit van de kamer kwam niet overeen met de boeking, boekingen waren zoekgeraakt en de wachtrij voor de receptie was enorm lang, varierend van een wachttijd van een kwartier tot een half uur. Aanvullend was het internet niet gratis in het hotel, terwijl dit in alle omliggende hotels wel zo was. De taxi's ter plekke hadden een vaste prijs die bijna twee keer zo hoog was als dertig meter verderop. Tot slot was de wasservice van het hotel bespottelijk duur: drie maal de prijs van de wasserette om de hoek die twee maal zo snel was.
