Nice hotel close to Shanghai Southern Rail Station
Check in was pleasant. Breakfast buffet was free, 2/3 were Chinese style, 1/3 were Western style. Room is small, compact, but amazingly, contains all the usual items. Ideal for single or double travelers, but small for a family.

Good hotel but far from metro station.
Room was small but neat & clean. Hotel was also nice & clean but breakfast had very limited selection. 15 to 20 minutes walk from the closest metro was a big inconvenience.

very clean but small room
lovely clean hotel , but had lots of issues with Taxi's refusing to take here due to its location little disappointed that I paid for a balcony room but yet you cant actually go out on the balcony! air conditioning in room was poor and the refrigerator actually made drinks warm! Food in restaurant for dinner was of very poor standard and extremely overpriced and often had ran out of things like juices! breakfast was good and had a good variety also disappointed that no tourist information is available. I thought the price was fair especially as it was a very clean hotel

A chance to recuperate
Very restful time. Just what was needed. Really friendly staff and other guests also very happy to talk over breakfast. Very good place for the price but not in the easiest part of the city to reach.

Facilities ok, but no good feeling with the staff.
Airport shuttle was mentioned but did not existed. Instead they offered an overpriced van. We are four, they offered one breakfast... so assume just one of us would eat or in a "subtle" way tried to force us to purchased their breakfast... No really close to any of the Shanghai airport, and not close enough to the subway station.

Great Hotel Reasonable Rate
I stayed in L'otel for a total of 15 days during my trips to Shanghai, Xi'an and Suzhou. I really enjoyed the nice environment within the hotel and its facilities. The staff members were generally polite and efficient. I would like to give special compliments to Suki at the front desk, the restaurant staff as well as the housekeeping crew. They provided excellent customer service, very accommodating. Although the location of L'otel is not particularly appealing in terms of convenience accessing major tourist spots, the hotel facilities and serene environment make up for the drawback. By the way, I ate at the hotel restaurant for a few times, and the food was pretty good. I definitely will recommend L'otel to my friends who plan to visit Shanghai.

Beautiful hotel off the beaten path
This is a beautiful hotel a little too far from the metro and the center of the city for my liking. That said, the staff were friendly enough although as is the case in the rest of the city and China in general the English is weak. That's not a complaint - this is their country after all and their english is a lot better than my Chinese (which is non-existent). The hotel itself is beautifully maintained. It's non-smoking and they have you sign an agreement that if you violate this policy, you will be required to pay a fine, which is fair enough. The hallways are beautifully lit and the room and the bed were reasonably comfortable. The breakfast was sensational! Everything from dumplings to waffles, fried rice to fried eggs prepared on the spot and pretty much anything else you could wish for. If only it weren't so far off the beaten path...

4/10 Fair

Rude staff
The staff is rude, disrespectful and insulting. There is no customer service whatsoever. We had a very unpleasant stay and I do NOT recommend this hotel. It is far from the main attractions of the city and just not worth your money. Find a place where people respect their customers and treat them properly.

Pleasant place
I stayed for 2 weeks. I actually stayed in 3 different rooms, so have a sense of the overall quality. In general, all the rooms were fairly quiet, except that the housekeeping staff spoke really loudly to each other, which always annoyed me. Rooms are standard: bottled water, towels, and tea. Television had a few foreign channels like HBO and Japanese stations, but the picture quality not too good. Air conditioning varied. In one room it worked great, in another it could not get the temperature lower than 28 degrees Celsius. Staff was generally helpful, and housekeeping was friendly, but the cafeteria staff was a little crude and demanding, as if they always wanted you to leave. Speaking of the cafeteria, the breakfast is not worth it. I tend not to like Chinese breakfasts like congee and rice rolls, but it is probably better than the Western items. They do have eggs and a toaster, but the French toast was basically youtiao with a different bread, and the bacon was unidentifiable. I bought a French press at IKEA and made my own coffee. The food in the neighborhood is not bad, with many Sichuan, Hunan, and Pulled Noodle places. Both Carrefour and Walmart are not too far. Otherwise, there is not much to see or do in the area. The gym worked for me. All I want is carpeting, space, and air conditioning and it had all three. Otherwise, they had a couple treadmills and a bicycle and weights. Watch out for mosquitoes though. Overall, this was a decent value.
