You may want to check a few things with the owner before booking
I am giving a 5 star to the owner for trying to help, but unfortunately only a 2 stars for the property. The bedding and bathroom were clean and good. The description and the pictures are extremely misleading. There are no 3 Queen Beds and 1 Twin bed, but 2 twin beds. There is no internet in the bedroom, and even in the: "main lodge open room” internet is only connected when the owner connects it via his phone (tethering), and I suppose that he must have a limited amount of data as the internet very quickly became extremely slow, barely useful for e-mails and useless for any web surfing research or to book your next stay or anything else (he told us that he realizes that it is very bad and he will change that). The light in the bedroom is extremely weak and you need a flash light to look for anything in your suitcase after dark. The pool was empty, and should have been repaired a few days after we were scheduled to leave, but I think I also read that in another review… There are only 2 or 3 outlets in the bedroom and not enough to recharge camera and computer batteries for 2 people, but you can ask the owner for a power bar and he will gladly oblige. There are no 2 restaurants and not even 1. Apparently the one beside “the pool” was badly damaged by the hurricane 2 years ago and never repaired, and the other one was just not available as the owner’s wife (the cook) was away for a month. The closest restaurant was 1km away, luckily we had a car, otherwise, for people who don’t have a car, that’s a long walk back and forth! If none of the above mentioned things are important for you, then your stay could be nice, the owner is very helpful and does his best to accommodate under the conditions. But if any of the above is important for you, then you may want to contact him directly (his English is relatively good) and make sure that they will be repaired or in place when you arrive.

8/10 Very good

Run down falling apart
Rooms stunk with bat urine from roosting bats. Things were falling apart. Owner was intoxicated upon arrival. Only had one room ready. Rooms were not as advertised. Did not have what was on website. Left early with his approval but had no ability to print a receipt so when called about early check out he said no even though he told us yes.

Nice owner, natural lodge in nice surrounding
It's a nice place, a little bit hidden, after arriving at Camp Negro turn left, drive to the next small town about 1.5km and turn right at the bus stop. After 50m you'll find a small wooden sign saying Cabanas, turn left into a small alley and drive to the end. The wooden houses are nice, very friendly owner and his wife. Bad thing is that the rooms are 'hosting' bats between the wood. We had to switch the first room, because of a bat and also the second room had a bat. We locked the bat in the bathroom, but you still could hear bats outside of the small wooden room, scratching on the wood and making noises. Couldn't get a good sleep and the room are too warm with just a fan. We recommend that they install air conditioner. Another thing the shower only has cold water, no possibility to choose a temperature, only water on/off. The dinner was good, it's in a nice wide open spaced veranda, but remember to use mosquito repellent before sitting down, otherwise you will have plenty of bites. Breakfast was ok. Only can pay with cash, make sure you pay the accommodation beforehand. The owner was nice, but we couldn't stay another night due to the above-mentioned reasons. In general a nice place, needs some update to make it more comforting.

Lodge has seen better days
We booked for 3 nights but left after 2. Access road poor. Everywhere seemed tired. Facilities as described but poor quality. We had power not the problem of the lodge but no back up lanterns or candles (neighbouring property managed them)

2/10 Poor

Lamentable

Friendly owner who is helpful in whatever you need
We stayed here for a total of 4 nights. The owner, Alverro, was very helpful, and the breakfast was good. The exploration by boat of the wetlands was very interesting. There was actually no WiFi available when we went. A couple of reading lamps attached to the bed would be nice. The cabins were simple, but comfortable. The pool has been emptied, now. It was kind of expensive (the most expensive place we stayed in, and we stayed in nicer accomodations). It is a very remote area with few options to compare with; and the owner, Alverro, speaks English and is wonderful about filling you in on information about the area and country. He is very involved in his community, and makes a difference to the lives of people there--a kind, caring person. I believe the isolation of the place makes it hard to fill the cabins, so perhaps the price reflects that.
