It could have been a bad start, but the family who runs BDH made it right and did so quickly. The room we reserved was taken, so we were somewhat disappointed. However the owner responded immediately and gave us a different room. Pluses: we did get a room. We got it immediately within minutes on a national holiday and at 9am (a very early check-in). We made it to our 10 am walking tour (also pre booked). Later we sat in the open courtyard where guests shared wine, tea, banana bread, eggplant lasagna, and good conversation. One guest was a BBC reporter. Guests were from Canada, South Africa, USA, Russia so indeed a very eclectic mix. Just up the street from the basilica which is visible from all of Quito. Very quiet. Felt very safe. We recommend BDH.
