Excellent value for money - newish hotel furnished and decorated to a very high standard. Polite and helpful staff in Reception. Restaurant on top (6th ) floor which serves breakfast, and is open at other times, ie evenings - however, as in many smaller hotels in Myanmar, the restaurant , which often has an extensive menu, does in fact NOT have a chef/cook, and meal selection is outsourced - this is the case with the Great Chan., and my simple order on my first night took 35 mins to arrive and l was the only person in the restaurant. Hotel is NOT close to City Centre, but is a 15 mins walk, to Ocean Supercenter, a new Mall providing many eating places, cinema, food stalls, large supermarket etc. Also note that hotel is not close to Airport, as shown on hotels.com booking site, the new Mandalay Intl. Airport is 35-40 mins away, and standard taxi fare to hotel from Airport is 15,000 kyats, approx GBP £10, US$ 15, Euro 12-13. This hotel boasts of "24hours electricity," provided by a more than adequate generator swhich cuts in qui ckly once the public supply is cut, whic h is fairly frequent
