Property is old. Staff excellent ( they do what they can to help) but quality of rooms below average. Rooms closest to office are best.. Restaurant/bar is closed for repairs

Maplewood Lodge
Staff was pleasant and careful. Room was basic and warm on the coldest day of the year. A descent restaurant attached. I used it to sleep and it worked.

Great staff
I love this hotel. I have stayed several times now. My son goes to school down the street. Very afhorable and accepts pets. Staff at checkin and restaurant are so welcoming. Rooms are updated and clean and comfortable. The restaurant has a great menu and food is delicious.

Receptionist do not know how to use system. Once arrived she denied that I booked through expedia and charged me one more time. She made me wait for half an hour, while she was attending calls and directing other customers to some other hotels as this lodge was sold out that night. She told me she is doing favor to me, by letting me check in. When asked for refund, they charged me again this time by mistake. So finally I was charged thrice and got refund though. But they wasted my time and I believe none of the receptionist know how to use online booking service system on computer, I do not have time for these silly corrections

Very dark outside room, the door lock was difficult to manage, there were limited places to have a meal after check-in, no place convenient to have a coffee in the morning.

The location is great, right on route 5 and within 1 mile of interstate 91. The room was OK for the price but they need to replace the Entry Door locks and install more secure locking devices. I went to the local lumber yard and bought a 1x4 pine board to prop under the door lock to make the door secure. The staff was friendly and the restaurant has good food. The room was quiet and we were able to sleep fine.

Just Don't
All I will say is this: I was in the Peace Corps for three years, and this hotel grossed and freaked me out. There are better options.

Getting Better
This hotel has recently gone under new management and they are working to make it better. The room was clean and the shower had new tile on the wall. However, when I got there to check in there was no one at the desk, I waited quite a while before someone finally showed up to get me into my room. Overall it was fine for one night, I probably wouldn't stay there for any length of time. But I do believe they will continue improving the place.

don't know who to blame
I made my reservations at the Maplewood on July 16 for the night of Sept 22. While traveling by car and about 50 miles from the Maplewood the manager calls at about 4 PM me and tells me that he does not have room for me because Expedia did not inform him until that day of my reservation and he had no vacancies. There were NO vacancies in that town. He said he was sorry but had no other suggestions. This is during the Fall Color season in upstate Vermont. We were very unhappy with both the Motel and with Expedia.

It is a nice hotel that has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It's also very close to st. Johnsbury where I was working. I will be here for 6 weeks and I think I made the right choice when I picked the Maple Wood Lodge!

Clean, quiet, restfull
I had read several not-so-good reviews about the Maplewood. I called to discuss them with the owner. He was very receptive and confirmed what some of the issues had been and how they had been corrected. I decided to take a chance and was happily impressed. Our room was more than adequate - simple, clean, nice new bathroom and shower (very important to me), ample room to relax. The price was more than affordable - surprisingly low! All in all, this is a very good, very affordable, quiet, clean and comfortable place to spend the night - great "home base" to explore the area and return to FABULOUSLY COMFY beds and pillows! A micowave and fridge came with our room - no table but we used the nightstand when we brought in take-out and that was fine. I have no complaints only compliments about the Maplewood and kudos to Julian and staff for making such a turn-around with the place!

Last Room in Town, and Justifiably So
The service was very friendly, and I appreciated the maple candies at the desk. I had been told before that I got the last room available, and I believed it, as I'd called 6 others that were full. The parking lot was jammed full, so I couldn't park near my room. As soon as I walked in the room, I could see how dirty the carpet was, both ground in dirt and various dust and other detritus sprinkled around. It was bad enough I didn't want to take off my shoes, and when I did, it felt pretty gross. The curtains covering the back window were closed, so I opened them...to find the window glass had been knocked out, and it was replaced with a piece of cardboard taped on with masking tape. The bathroom had a pretty new looking vanity/sink, mirror, shelf unit, and toilet, so that was good. On the other hand, the toilet wobbled to one side when you sat on it, the tub was all scuffed up and had no drain plug, and the bathroom walls were dinged up in several places with paint chipped off. However, the shower worked well enough and was remarkably quiet compared to most other hotels. Back in the main room, the bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows, but the bedspread/duvet cover was wrinkly, like it had been used or left crumpled up. The TV worked just great. This was an okay place to sleep, but I was happy to get out of there early the next morning.

Room was so small that the two queen beds were against the walls, so the person sleeping next to the wall had to climb over the other person to get out of bed. There was not a chair, desk, table, in the room. A floor lamp at the foot of the bed. The Curtains didn't cover the windows completely. Totally disappointing overall.

Clean, good location, nice staff
Staff was extremely nice and helpful. I had a wedding, and they let us check in 3 hrs earlier without additional fee. It looks a little rundown on the outside, but the room was definitely upgraded recently. Curtains, bed cover and sink seemed very new. I didnt have a chance to try the restaurant but it was packed on a Saturday afteenoon. I would definetely stay here again!
