The good thing about the Oaks is that it is new, and they haven't had much of an opportunity to let it get shabby yet. I expect that they will. The staff is very nice, but I can't believe that any of them have ever stayed in a well-run hotel, or even visited one.
The wifi is nearly totally useless. I could get my mail, but that was about it.
The hotel is outside of Both Gaya, located across from a power station and next to some huge diesel generators. It would not have been my first choice for a spot to locate a hotel. We had a car, but you can take a cab or tuktuk to town. Most of the other guests were on tour buses.
The folks in the restaurant were also pretty clueless about how to prepare food and serve it. By 9AM, the breakfast buffet was pretty dismal. I made the mistake of ordering a light dinner, which took 40 minutes to arrive. My friend ordered soup, which took an inexplicable 15 minutes. While I was there, some folks were seated at the next table. The ordered, waited 20 minutes and left.
The bottom line is that you can have the best facilities, and the nicest staff, but if you don't invest in training them, it is just a waste. I put this hotel's problems squarely at the feet of its ownership and top management.
