We were fortunate to stay a week at Craggy Peaks and each day was a delight. The location is peaceful and secluded but you can also be as active as you wish with lots of exploring to do in the old mining towns , more strenuous walks up the many bluffs which surround the Retreat, taking a stroll on the soft natural grasslands of the old golf course or simply sitting on the balcony and getting to know the friendly local native animals. The cabins were thoughtfully and tastefully fitted out, recognising the isolation with a full kitchen, a shared laundry and helpful extras available at reception where you find friendly staff who are always to assist with information about the area.
A visit to the Mathinna Country Club is a must if you take the time to travel to Ben Lomond!
There are also three lovely camping spots by the creek and a couple of powered smaller van sights near the spotless BBQ and firepit area.
Within easy reach of the East coast , the Midland ( Heritage) Highway and Launceston, this oasis is a perfect layover.
We certainly hope to return.
