This was my beach escape for a week and I loved every second. I was going to stay 3 days and ended up staying the whole week.

The staff was extremely unhelpful to almost everyone I encountered. Bordering on rude. It was very noisy. The people above us sounded like they were coming through our floor. We took some friends to eat snacks and get 1 drink at the restaurant and it was outrageously expensive. We ate at Koki twice and it wasn't that expensive. Even though this property has a great location at Playa Cocles, I won't stay here again.

The hostel is nice and well kept. AC and wifi is great! Hostel food and bar is a bit pricey, but food was great! Bike rental on premise and close to other beaches and restaurants. Staff was super nice too. Definitely recommend!

There is a lot to do in puerto viejo. Different restaurants and a market not far. Playa 506 is directly on the beach which is great and it’s beautiful. Located near other hostels which is nice. Everything is walkable, or you can rent a bike, or scooters, or taxi. I like that the hostel had a restaurant/ bar very combined when other places in town were not open as early.

Mixed reaction
First the great part: the beach is right there and its just gorgeous. And the dogs were adorable. There is a community kitchen so you can cook and the atmosphere is nice.
The not-so-good: our room was very stuffy and had a foul smell. When we asked the unconcerned receptionist she said there were no more rooms available. The blurb promised free parking and housekeeping. The parking was public parking on the side of a busy street and the housekeeping evidently occurs in between guests. And my husband got a beer and was charged $5 which is a lot for a place with a sand floor.
We did have fun though. The room, mattress and pillows werent nice but the beachside setting surely is.

A fun inexpensive place to stay right on the beach. The food and drink is great. It was at the end of the off season so it was quiet and the restaurant/bar was closing a bit earlier than normal but they were very accommodating staying open until everyone was taken care of. The hostel can arrange various tours. I stayed there specifically as it was a good base to take a few day trip into Panama.

Piece of beach heaven
Best hostel I stayed at in Costa Rica, hands down. Right off the beach, friendly staff, privacy curtains for your bunk, bathrooms located outside of the room so no one is disturbing anyone else in the room at random hours, and close to the best parts of PV. It’s a bit of a far walk from downtown but I personally didn’t care much for the main downtown area. Biggest downside was there were random times that water would be shut off but that only affected me once. The vibe is so great here and it makes me think back fondly to my time in Costa Rica. Also - BEST BREAKFAST included by a hostel. Lunch/dinner menu was excellent as well.

This hostel definitely has a nice relaxing vibe. The rooms were clean and comfortable. It rained everyday but still nice. The con was there was not much to do in the area and there were a lot of stray dogs and cats. They dont bother you but if you have an allergies to cats and dogs, Costa Rica ismt for you. The view and sound of the waves were 100% worth it.

Relaxed vibes right on the beach
We loved staying here and didn't want to leave: great relaxed atmosphere out of the slightly hectic Puerto viejo. Lovely little room, we had a room with shared bathrooms and those were great - super clean and comfortable. The outside area is unbeatable: a restaurant area under a palm tree rooftop that is built around a tree, and more seating and hammocks in the shade of palmtrees on the beach.
To swim, check with staff or the lifeguard where it is safe (further up north of the beach, two minute stroll up) as there are rip currents right outside. That also means the area stays quiet :)
Super nice staff, attentive and friendly, and great food!

Beware room details
The location is great, right by the beach but you'll need to rent a bike to go around (it's cheaper from Puerto Viejo). Staff is ok and food average. Be extra careful when booking as what was supposed to be a 20m2 sea facing room turned out to be a 6m2, extremely hot street and traffic facing room. Moreover flies invaded the first floor and staff did not not seem to care much. Finally, the gate to the beach would not lock at night so security should be improved.

Great hostel with mediocre rooms
Hostel has an amazing location just out of town and a great staff. Decorations are funky, bar has great beer, literally on the beach. Couldn’t ask for a better common area. But the rooms literally sound like they have cardboard walls, our private room had no ventilation and a lot of mildew smell, and the showers are basically outside with wood floors.
All in all it’s a great upscale hostel in terms of location and service and decorations, but it’s a bit pricey for what you get in terms of your sleeping room. People are super friendly and multilingual though so might be worth it!

Had a blast!
Had an absolute blast at Playa 506. The location straight on the beach is incredible, both for just going out for a swim but also to watch the incredible sunrises in the morning. The women in the reception are also so helpful and kind. There was a party in Bocos, Panama, the weekend I was staying but the vibe was still cool, the Sunday when people were coming back it became straight away even more social which was a nice way to finish off my stay. The only downer for this place is that there’s no free coffee in the morning. The facilities are also alright, I’ve been to hostels with better/cleaner kitchen facilities but it was still alright. Would highly recommend to stay!
