This little gem rests within the confines of a small village, but DO NOT let that dissuade you from visiting. The staff, and locals!, are very friendly. Many many people speak English, so communication is not a problem. It has modern amenities and old world charm. Recommended.

The Lochner is in Markelsheim (not Bad Mergenteim, as appears on some sites). Markelsheim is a charming wine village situated under impressively steep vine slopes. The hotel is as charming as the village. It's a classic old German building into which they've somehow managed to install lifts. Some of the floors are on "half-storeys" so not all the rooms avoid stairs. There was ample parking at the back, though the spaces were tight. After a very hot day, my room was a bit warm at night, even with the window ajar, but not uncomfortable. I had a single room, which was large enough. As the hotel filled up, the wi-fi in my room slowed and would often drop out. Tolerable though. There's a lovely big indoor at about 28C - perfect on a hot day - and a sauna, which no-one used that day. The breakfast was a normal fine German breakfast. The staff were very welcoming, though with some I found it better to communicate in German than in English. I enjoyed my single night stay, but I probably wouldn't want a long stay here.

Netter Gasthof mit gutem Preis Leistung Verhältnis

Netter Gasthof mitten im Ort. Restaurant gut mit regionaler Küche, war sehr gut besucht. Reservieren empfohlen. Zimmer durchschnittlich, für den Preis iO. Für einen Kurzaufenthalt empfehlenswert.

Super Hotel in Markelsheim! (Ideal für Radfahrer)

Das Hotel liegt zentral im Ortskern von Markelsheim. Wenn man sich auf dem Radweg Klassiker Taubertal Route befindet, kommt man automatisch am Hotel vorbei, was sehr vorteilhaft ist, da man sich nicht groß im Ort orientieren muss! Positiv ist auch die Fahrradgarage wo man sein E Bike aufladen und abstellen konnte. Das Hotel hat ein eigenes Restaurant, wo deftige, leckere Malhzeiten serviert werden. Frühstucksbuffet absolut ausreichend mit frischem Rührei und Speck. Das Personal war sehr freundlich, alles war gut organisiert und sauber. Gerne wieder!

Wir waren mit den Fahrrädern unterwegs. Geräumige Fahrradgarage. Abschliessbare Ladeboxen. Sehr freundliches, hilfsbereites Personal. Biergarten liegt leider an der Strasse.
