Great place to stay! The room and bathroom are spick and span. The communal space/living area is beautiful and comfortable. Paul was very responsive. I’d love to come back and bring my bike next time.

We really liked the Traveler's Rest Hotel - but it's definitely atypical, so if you prefer chain hotels, this is not for you. In a carefully restored historic building with lots of character, Traveler's Rest feels a little more like a large bed & breakfast. Our bathroom was a short walk down the hall - but it was private, and sparklingly clean. Breakfast is in a shared common room (like a large living room) with lots of food choices, good coffee, and friendly conversation.

Friendly, personable, lovely old place
Very friendly, personable owners. Great place. Nice schwag (I bought a shirt). Lovely old place with a homey feel. They gave us all sorts of information and know a lot about the area and little nooks of town.

The staff were very welcoming. Very different from traditional hotel experiences, but that’s part of the charm. Within walking distance of South Shore Pittsburgh made it easy to do things without moving the car.

Unique and utterly charming. Our 1-night stay was quick so we didn’t get to enjoy the accommodations as much as we would’ve liked. Private bathroom assigned to our bedroom was modern and clean. Twin beds in our room were comfy. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Pittsburgh. Host Mary Beth was wonderful.

Our stay was utterly delightful. The owners responded promptly to my texted questions before we arrived; this turned out to be a preview of impeccable customer service and a wonderful experience overall. The house is gorgeous, the kitchen comfortable, and the people fun to talk to. My husband and our two teenagers were initially hesitant about the detached bathroom. But we all found the arrangements to be great. The bathroom is completely private and toiletries can be left inside with the door locked. The location was convenient for driving to PNC Park and walking to restaurants and the Monongahela Incline. Not only would we stay there again, we'll recommend it to everyone.

We had a lovely stay. The Traveler’s Rest is so unique. The history of the building and the area is fascinating. It is very close to Station Square and downtown. Anyone wanting to experience a quaint hotel without all tourists should check The Traveler’s Rest out.

Charming, clean and authentic. Great for families.
Our family of 5 (3 teens) loved the Traveler's Rest! This hotel has so much more character and charm than a standard hotel in the suburbs. Our teens described it as a "Wes Anderson movie vibe."
Our beds were comfortable, the Byer's' Suite with three beds, two bedrooms and a private washroom was perfect for all five of us, and the common area is comfortable with great coffee. We are so happy we had a chance to experience an authentic Pittsburgh neighbourhood while in town for a youth sports tournament.

Cozy place with affordable price
Great place to stay and not pay extra for unneeded things. Room had just the basics needed for our overnight stay. Private bathroom just across the hall was very clean and modern. Location was quiet, quieter than most hotels I've been to recently! Within easy walking distance of PNC Park (Pirates), which was the reason for our visit to Pittsburgh. Plenty of free (non-metered), nearby on street parking available. We were able to park just outside the front door.

If you want to stay in a historic building with some beautiful woodwork and unplug in homey rooms, this is a great place. My husband and a friend stayed in the corner suite which used to be the offices and board room of an industrial mogul during the industrial revolution and early 20's. Gorgeous high ceilings and woodwork. We found out when we met the owners (very nice people) that they cyclists and apparently there is a city bike trail so many cyclists like to stay there. We were in town for a hockey game. There are some continental breakfast options each morning. As FYI there is no onsite room service but the owners are very available. When your confirmation is sent, they will send you a door code. We would certainly stay here again. Charming building!

Hostel Newbies
Our stay was just fine, but it started out a bit rocky. I never received an email from Hotels.com with our check-in instructions and door code. When we arrived, checked again for the email while it was pouring down rain. Luckily, we found a phone number of the hostel and talked with owner that walked us through getting in the front door. Once in, we found the hostel very charming. We were surprised by the small room and lack of TV. Our own private bathroom was across the hall. But the code to get in the bathroom is the same code as the front door. And since we didn’t get the email from Hotels.com, we had to contact the owner again to get the code. The next morning, we were able to meet and talk with the owners, who were very friendly and told us all about the history of the building.
