Hotel Skeppsholmen, Stockholm, a Member of Design Hotels

A retired frequent business and pleasure traveler who has spent countless nights on the road, my general recommendation is to take the best reviews listed here to heart. If you enjoy being just another room number in a large hospitality factory, avoid Hotel Skeppsholmen. Otherwise, please read on. Beyond comfortable rooms with nice views, good amenities and well-prepared food, Hotel Skeppsholmen is a nightly romantic walk “home” to its own quaint, charming islet, 10 minutes across the bridge by foot, but a world away from bustling central Stockholm. What truly sets Hotel Skeppsholmen apart from the pack, however, is its staff who puts their heart into their work. From the moment you walk in, there is an inexplicable, comfortable sense of being, a familiar place, perhaps as if staying at the country villa of friends or family. Special accolades are in order to the restaurant staff for making each meal feel like we were dining in the home of very special caring friends. Likewise, accolades go to the guest services Manager and crew where attention to detail and little surprise touches (I won’t ruin) are in store for guests. It is readily apparent the Skeppsholmen Managing Director has an eye for assembling an outstanding crew worth its weight in gold. Thanks to them I often daydream of yesterday at Hotel Skeppsholmen, yet fight a bit of sadness at being unable to return until Summer.

Minimalist decor in a very tasteful way. Excellent breakfasts. Lovely bedlinen and towels. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location a short walk to the old town.

On the plus side: brilliant location, convenient, great views, very quiet, clean, friendly staff, very stylish design. On the minus side: there is a fine line between minimal Scandinavian chic and lack of comfort. We told the staff our heating wasn't working in the room and had to use a small, old, portable heater for the duration of our stay as the radiators were not repaired, thank goodness it wasn't freezing cold! One low level bare light bulb in the bathroom may look understated but no one can see to get ready! There weren't enough staff at the Valentine's dinner. The staff seemed completely out of their depth, everyone knows Valentine's night will be a busy night. We were encouraged by email to book this special meal. At breakfast too, guests milling about looking for tables, clearing their own tables and wiping them while a few laid back staff walked around is just not on. Where was the host? There's also a fine line between being laid back and being positively horizontal. Some guide books I read led me to believe this would be the epitome of stylish comfort. Lower your expectations.

Lovely hotel in picturesque setting. Easily accessed by ferry or on foot. Unfortunately apart from the museums there are no cafes/restaurants or bars on the island and no bar in the hotel so you have to travel back to city centre for these. In Winter this is worth bearing in mind. Would be nice if there was a lounge area with fire for relaxing after spending the day in City.

The Hotel was wonderful. Katherine was particularly helpful solving a problem for us and the quality of the staff, location and food was excellent. Would stay there next time.

This was my 4th stay at Hotel Skeppsholmen and it didn't let us down. The staff is always amazly friendly and helpful and the rooms are very comfortable. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to stay in Stockholm!

Very nice stay! My mum, daughter and I stayed for 3 nights. Very friendly and helpful staff, our room (deluxe sea & garden room) was nice, good space and clean, very good breakfast, location is central with easy access to museums, shops, Gamla Stan and Skansen via boat, bus or walking.

Beautiful hotel, spectacular location, excellent staff, amazing breakfast. The combination made for a very relaxing and very pleasant stay. The staff is especially kind, professional and helpful. Definitely worth a stop. It is truly superb, as the reviews say..
