2/10 Poor

Horrible Property
Absolute dump. Bedding was filthy, walls were covered with dirty handprints, tv was not working, and the room was situated within steps of the very noisy reception. When asked for alternative accommodations the staff indicated this was “all they had”. . The room looked nothing like the photos, and more like a college dormitory. Definitely deceptive marketing, and certainly not anywhere near the expectation of a 3 or 4-star property. Big disappointment. Buyer beware!!

Good two bedroom option
Nice place to stay, lots of walkable activities, restaurants. We had two bedroom that was of an ok size. Was quiet and comfortable. Bathroom was a little tight/difficult as there wasn’t really any counterspace.

Wonderful stay
The room was very nice and clean. The hotel lobby is welcoming and had tea, coffee, water, and snacks available. The hotel was off of a beautiful canal and easy to walk pretty much anywhere.

Fabulous location!
This hotel is an updated, old (of course) building in a truly fabulous location. The room was fine -- it was clean and comfortable, and pretty spacious, esp considering the location. The staff we interacted with were all very helpful, including carrying one of our suitcases up two flights of stairs when we arrived. (We had requested a high floor, even though we knew there was no elevator, so we thought her help was above and beyond.) I can't understate how great the location is among the charming traditional cobblestone streets and canal bridges, with proximity to great shopping and restaurants, and walking distance to Anne Frank House, and the Rijks and Van Gogh Museums. Plus a fantastic restaurant is almost next door to the hotel: Restaurant de Struisvogel. Strongly recommended!

Regardless of the negative reviews, we had a great experience! This was a great place for a one night stay! The room was nice, we had a nice size bathroom and the canal view was great! Yes, the stairs are steep and yes, you have to carry your luggage but that was not a problem for us!

2/10 Poor

The only thing about this hotel that feels like 4-stars is the price. I wish there was a way we could appeal Expedia's ratings. Let's put aside that someone with key card access and a master code robbed our safe and stole my wife's jewellery - that's a whole other thing. When we arrived I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on cleanliness (clean it was not). I was also willing to look past the horrible sewer smell permeating the corridors and our room (very old building, below-grade, old plumbing) and the mould. But when our family of 5 used up the 1.5 rolls of toilet paper they provided by the first morning, and we went to ask the for more, we were met with the response "we're out, you'll have to wait for the delivery later. Here's a box of facial tissue". I was speechless. So I went to the supermarket right across the street and bought our own 4-pack of toilet paper. I left one roll with the lady at the front desk in case any other guests had an emergency. I've been to a restaurant where the manager ran across the street to buy a drink they didn't have if a guest asked for it. Why did I have to procure my own toilet paper in an $800/night room? Where's the customer service attitude? The manager later denied it even happened. I'll expect a rebuttal from them in these reviews, given their past activity, but I have no reason to make this up. It's too bad, because we love Amsterdam, but this hotel experience soured my family on going back.

Good size room. Good size bed. All amenities ( a/c, tv, mini fridge) worked just fine. Bathroom clean and functional. We had view to the garden, unfortunately, flowers were dead. Walk distance to restaurants, transport and center. Maybe a challenge to people with mobility issues, we’re on the ground floor and had many small steps. Also, housekeepers talked very loud in the hall. I would stay again for sure

6/10 Good

We stayed in room 16- which was a 3 bedroom one bathroom apartment. Very cool space but really dirty. My kids loved having their own rooms upstairs. If you’re not fit, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There are a lot of small narrow stairs and no elevators. I’m very confused who allowed this to be called a 4 star hotel. It most definitely is not. It’s giving first apartment all free hand me down furniture, dishes, linens vibes- maybe a few new Ikea pieces. Most lockable windows were unlocked on arrival. It didn’t help that I read the google reviews prior to check in and there were a lot of reviews about theft. It’s very dirty like they don’t have maids. The trim was covered in filth, there were dead smushed spiders on the wood floors, the walls were even filthy. The towels are frayed and dingy. Due to the reviews we were nervous to have the place serviced during our stay and opted to keep the do not disturb sign on. There is a bug problem. There are spiders, flies, mosquitos and ants. We killed the mosquitos we could while we were awake but all got eaten alive while we slept.

2/10 Poor

Overall a terrible experience. We checked in and were given a beautiful room. The room was well equipped and as it was a very warm day in Amsterdam, we turned on the AC. We were content and then the frustrations began. We went for a stroll to see the local area and returned at 5:30 PM. Upon entering the room, it was excruciatingly hot. The AC was not working and only the fan was on. We contacted the staff who showed me how to use the thermostat. I noticed ours did not have the chill mode. I explained this to the staff and was told the operation of the AC was “hard to explain” we decided to leave because it was too hot. We returned at 8 PM and the AC was working. All good. The following morning we woke to shower and upon turning the main shower head, the water was extremely hot. We turned the valves to the cold setting to no avail. It appeared the water temperature valve was broken and not operational meaning the shower was eternally stuck on the hottest setting. We were forced to bathe using the bathtub faucet which is low. We brought this to the staff and they stated they would check on it. Upon our return, no change and the water remained hot. We again told the staff who stated a work order would be submitted and it would be looked at 9:30 AM. Was the matter fixed? Nope. We endured this for the next two days. Overall the worse experience in my many years of travel. Also the AC chill mode turns off during the day and is non-op during the hottest hours. Traveler beware.

Was disappointed that I paid for 2 deluxe rooms (for myself and one for my son and his girlfriend) but was told upon checking in that since I was checking in solo they downgraded my room and didn't offer a refund. The room was fine but it was the principle of not receiving compensation. I paid almost $400 a night for these rooms (which I see are usually less) so I left with a bitter taste of being taken advantage of
