Extremely dated in the 1960's, mickey mouse ac installation, no daily check on room or amenities.
This is an old building. It is more of a hostel, and there is no "front desk". That being said, the people working it are very friendly and this is a good price. The beds were comfortable.
Service is very personal, Kevin is great. The place feels more like a hostel than a hotel - only with private rooms. Big full kitchen available, plus a mini fridge in the room. Laundry available too with free detergent. Shower was really nice. Little snack basket in the room for $1 a piece. It has lot's of character, feels friendly and comfortable. Definitely in need of some cosmetic updates, but comfortable - and had the things I needed readily available to make my trip comfortable.
I recently booked a stay at Brookside House because it is conveniently located close to the south shore beaches (Nantasket, to be specific). It is an outstanding value! First of all, immediately after I booked the room the management reached out to me to ask me if I had any questions, and to inform me of the shared bathroom arrangement. The "shared bathroom" is actually somewhat of an overstatement, and definitely not a reason not to stay at Brookside House. Each pair of adjoining rooms are connected by a small hallway, and the bathroom is a separate door off of that hallway. So therefore the rooms are not connected by a bathroom, but rather by a hallway. It was absolutely never an issue during my stay. I was going to be checking in late, so I reached out and the management (I emailed with both Lori and Kevin) could not have been nicer or more responsive. They clearly care about customer service, and do their best to make every visitor feel welcomed. The room itself was clean, well decorated, and fully equipped. While I did not spend much time in my room (opting for the beach instead) it was certainly comfortable. I would highly recommend Brookside House to any travelers who are heading towards the south shore beaches OR Boston, and are looking for an excellent value!
Great little place to stay, Lori was extremely helpful, price was more than fair. Will definitely consider coming back!
Brookside House was a nice surprise. As startuppers with limited budget we were looking for an affordable accommodation, willing to compromise on furniture, amenities and commute time to Boston to get a better price. The hotel is undergoing some renovation and furniture is a little dated, but perfectly functional. Unlike other Airbnb accommodations we stayed at in the neighboring area of North Quincy, the room was spacious, offering two twin beds, a desk, a small refrigerator and well-working WIFi. Plus free parking, very important for us as we wanted to commute by ground transportation. The Red T-line station at Quincy Central is under construction, so we had to use buses to connect to North Quincy, which added time to the relatively long commute. But Quincy itself is a very nice town, pleasant to walk through. Lori (the owner) was very friendly when she greeted us the first day and gave us basic information about access to he hotel. All other instructions are clearly marked on strategically positioned notes throughout the room. Bathroom is shared with another room, but it turned out not to be a problem.
Great staff, cozy room... overall, a pleasant experience! Thank you, Brookside House!
Pros: Short walking distance to local restaurants, shopping centers and T transit station, very friendly staff, fridge and coffeemaker in room, free wi-fi, full kitchen and laundry in basement Cons: THIN walls and windows (you WILL hear your neighbors inside and out, I recommend a white noise machine), bed was clean but very firm (personal nitpick). Stayed 4 nights on vacation with girlfriend to celebrate getting a new job. Proximity to train station and bus stops means reasonably quick travel to central Boston without the higher room prices downtown. Room was only really used for sleeping and bathing, and we have no real complaints beyond the cons above. If you're traveling on a budget this place is a clean, safe and convenient choice.
Very old and outdated. If you can sleep with the sound of a window A/C unit blasting all night 3’ from the bed, you might be ok. It never got to temp set, couldn’t keep up with outside temps, and you have to pay extra if you leave it on when not in room. The windows in common areas and common bathroom are left open, so the heat and humidity permeate the building. You are expected to wipe down bathroom after each use, in case your neighbor wants to use facilities, so you are also the maid. And don’t leave any of your things in the bathroom. There isn’t space anyway. Furniture looks like Salvation Army cast offs. The tiny TV is wall mounted across from the head of the bed, so you have to be sitting on bed end, facing backwards, or if lying in bed, craning your head to see it.
Stuffy room. No opening window, just a rattling aircon. TV reception was poor, couldn't watch. Also poor choice of channels, no sport. Room was not serviced once during my 6 night stay. But the bed was comfortable and the wifi was good. Too expensive for what is on offer.
