Koh Kong is the capital of Koh Kong Province, which is roughly 10 km from the Thai border. The Kah Bpow River flows through the town and Smach Meanchey district by the Gulf of Thailand. Travelling to Koh Kong is made easy by the Thai-Cambodian Bridge, and you can easily reach the casinos close to the border post.
Popular activities include exploring the island and trekking up the Cardamom Mountains. Guided tours to the Koh Sdach archipelago may last a couple of days. If you plan to do so, most booking offices for these services are on the riverfront road. Koh Totang is also popular for nature adventures like snorkelling, diving overnight camps, night canyon adventures and guided waterfall trekking.

Kbal Chhay Prek Koh Waterfall is probably the most visited nature attraction in Koh Kong Province. The breathtaking views of the waterfall and the surrounding forests offer a memorable experience. Because of its strategic location away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Koh Kong is a popular destination for most travellers to Cambodia and many use the waterfall as a picnic spot as well.
The Kbal Chhay Falls provide a remarkable sight for visitors but there many other waterfalls in Koh Kong to explore. The monsoon season sees rivers filling up and creating magnificent sights at waterfalls in the Cardamom Mountains. If you want to explore one of them, the Tatai Waterfalls are among the easiest to reach. The waterfalls have 2 tiers and drop from about 6 metres and 15 metres respectively. Other impressive waterfalls include Koh Por which is studded with massive boulders and rocks with giant gorges surrounded by jungle.

Shopping in Koh Kong
The truth about shopping in Koh Kong is that most of the products sold here, whether necessities or luxuries, are brought in from Thailand. Even so, you can still find a number of shops that sell street clothing and which stay open until 10pm.
Lam Da Beach
Lam Da is one of the most popular beaches in Koh Kong. Most travellers hire a car to come here and spend the day, lazing in the sun or taking a swim. The beach has almost all the natural elements that one can think of, and it's one of the most important landmarks of Koh Kong.
Getting to Koh Kong from Cambodia
Sre Ambel is the connecting point of Koh Kong to Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh via National Route 4. The drive can be pleasant with beautiful scenic features.
You can take in the developing countryside of Cambodia and admire the Cardamom Mountains along the way. There are bus rides available from Koh Kong in the morning and afternoon.
The Cham Yeam border of Thailand is located at a distance of 10 km and can be crossed with the help of motos and taxis (shared or single). You may have to bargain with the drivers waiting to charge too much at the border area to come down to a fair price for both parties.
