Angelo and his team couldn't have done any more for us. The room we booked was not described as a seaview room, but i emailed as it was a birthday weekend stay and we had a reply confirming we were in a seaview room.
The room was spacious and exceptionally clean with a mini bar, stocked with water (and restocked daily) and pop on arrival. The bed was amazingly comfortable with sufficient pillows and nice bedspread. The seaview was of the fisherman boats looking into the little sea where you could see the mussels being cultivated. The toiletries were of good standard, as to were the coffee and tea facilites, a lavazza coffee maker and a kettle if you were a tea drinker.
The atmosphere of the hotel was lovely, and the interior design was nicely thought out, not too cluttered but also not too sparce. The old area itself is going through a lot of rejuvenation which needs a lot of money injected into it to make it ultra special but Palazzo Mata is truly a diamond in the rough.
Taranto itself was interesting. Initially we were not going to stay but after a trip to one of the nicest beaches we have ever been too, including the maldives, and a tuk tuk tour, both arranged by the lovely people at the hotel, we are so glad we did. The trip was the highlight of our 2 week tour of italy and we will definitely be back.
All the team at palazzo mata (family run) should be proud on what they have achieved and definitely made us welcomed from the food, the icecream birthday "cake" & other
