Unexpected Charges & Unpleasant Odors
I stayed at Residence Inn Isla Verde San Juan and chose to pay at the property. At check-in, I confirmed there were no additional charges beyond the known $40 per night resort fee. However, at checkout, I was surprised with an extra $20 per night charge (totaling $43.60 after taxes). When I questioned it, staff first claimed it was required, but I later learned it was because I mentioned in the booking comments that I would prefer a room away from the elevators if possible. At no point was I told this would cost extra, nor did I agree to it.
Adding to the frustration, there was a persistent foul odor—the area around my refrigerator and the hallway smelled like a dirty diaper. The same odor was noticeable in hallways on multiple floors.
Between the undisclosed charge and the unpleasant smell, this was a disappointing stay. Double-check your bill and be aware of potential cleanliness issues. I expected honesty and better upkeep, but both were lacking.
