5 Best Markets on the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Street Market takes place on Wednesdays down by the port of this famous historic town. Arriving at the venue is all part of the fun. You’ll stroll down an old cobblestoned road while admiring the world-famous coastline. Vendors line a breezy oceanfront path, allowing shoppers to sift through goods with a million-dollar view.

The Minori Street Market pops up on Thursday mornings by the waterfront of the small town in the middle of the Amalfi Coast. A healthy mix of locals and curious travellers wander between its colourful, fruit and vegetable-strewn stalls. Low prices and freshly plucked produce make the market an attractive alternative to the town’s grocery stores.

Located near the shore, it’s a scenic spot to shop for produce while enjoying a fresh ocean breeze. Once you’ve loaded up on supplies, reserve a Minori Beach sun lounger to catch some rays as you soak up those iconic Amalfi Coast views.

The Ravello Market runs every Tuesday morning at the 2-tiered parking space beneath Piazza Duomo. As it’s not as scenic as other Almalfi markets, the small community-based event oozes authenticity. You’ll find very few fellow travellers here, nor vendors with a high degree of English fluency.

After stocking up on produce, stroll around the town’s quaint medieval streets. Known as the City of Music, Ravello hosts a slew of intriguing attractions. Catch a performance at the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium or admire the cascading sea-facing gardens at Villa Rufolo.

The Sorrento Market takes place on Via San Renato on Tuesday mornings. Like other Amalfi area markets, this event focuses heavily on locally sourced produce like fruit, vegetables, and cheese. You’ll also find a small selection of household goods and apparel.

The vibrant, open-air affair is a top spot to people watch. Bargain-hunting local housewives haggle hard with the vendors, sometimes evoking a theatrical scene. Travellers may struggle to score the same discounts as the language barrier inevitably gets in the way. But it’s an overall unique and authentic experience not to be missed, nevertheless.
