Most of stay was good including service main part of hotel and food. Not sure about other rooms but our bedroom was a bit “tired” and in need of some updating.
Comfortable room, if a bit run down. Warm and plenty of hot water. Friendly service. Breakfast is good, and there is a good restaurant in the pub. Expensive, but everywhere around seems to be.
Room adequate but walls thin. Guests were easily overheard. Breakfast, fruit lack variety and choice. Dinner for my wife was ribeye steak 10oz of which 25% was gristle. Also quite expensive made worse by the wastage. The steak was ordered to be medium but was delivered medium rare and red. Taken back and had to wait a considerable time for replacement/ recooking. Owner apologised but after dinner he did not ask if the meal was good. The waitress showed no interest in our complaint. Not even stating that she would pass on our comments. Thus the rating of poor to adequate. Will NOT return.
Checked in to the hotel ok. The room was very small and had a strange odour.we did not eat in the restaurant. It was extremely difficult to sleep light shining from the corridor into our room by this time the smell was not improving. I know that this is a hotel for a lot of shooters and fishermen but this was like a stale dog smell. The hotel is looking very tired and dated. It needs a good refresh. Breakfast was not a good experience. It took over half an hour for our food to arrive and when it did my husband had to send it back to get his egg cooked. Ten minutes later no breakfast the staff were too busy playing around in the kitchen. His breakfast arrived and was cold so we gave up. Would not recommend the buccleugh hotel and won't be re booking
Stair carpet and floors throughout a little challenging, otherwise everything was great.
Lovely big clean room with good size bathroom and lovely big fluffy towels . Needed to close the blind when using the toilet as it faced a main road junction . ( It could have done with a net curtain or venation blind not a roman blind ) which shut out the lovely sunlight we had for 3 days . Meals were mixed. On the first night we had two very nice meals one of us had gammon and the other had the pork . The gammon was so nice that we both decided to have it the second night however both meals were very disappointing the gammon was gristly and slightly under cooked . We did complain but the only person to apologise was the waitress . The third night we took no chances and had fish and chips in Jedburgh . Breakfast were mix too some days better than others . The only preserve was marmalade which was so runny we poured it on to our toast (We thought it was honey ) This all said the hotel was very busy and we had to book our table for evening meals. On our way home we had one night in a less expensive hotel which WAS in need of some renovation but was very clean , friendly and the meals were very good . We were even asked if every thing was Ok (which it was .)
Comfortable beds and a peaceful nights rest in this characterful hotel. Staff friendly. Nice garden to sit and have a drink in. Only issues were the wardrobe had a strong odour so didn’t hang any clothes in it and light above bathroom mirror didn’t work. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.
Pet friendly yes if you pay £15 per night per pet thats £30 and we were at the hotel last than 12 hours oh then tool only one dog allowed then told no dogs rooms available. The place is cleanish and the bed was comfy but the room very small and very rundown and outdated. Pink bathroom suite, threadbare carpets, 2 small sachets of coffee and one small packet of biscuits between us. Breakfast was not good one didn't come until the other was eaten, they apologised for forgetting stand when I asked for marmalade it was just liquid in a jar. Struggled to park in the carpark.
Two guests staying to complete Borders Abbeys Way walk. Hotel has been recently refurbished to high standard in dining and bar areas. The double bed-room was fairly cramped but had useful storage facilities. Ventilation was limited but the room was otherwise warm and comfortable. The dining room offered very tasty dinners with a limited but good quality wine selection. The hotel is very conveniently located alongside the A68 and caters well for long-distance walks in the area.
The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the Borders - and there is so much to see. St Boswells itself is a pleasing village (with a fine book shop / cafe on the Main Street), Melrose is a gem with the Abbey and local shops, Newstead and its Roman history at Trimontium is so interesting, and Old Melrose is a delightful place to visit. All of this lies within two or three miles of the Buccleuch Arms, and doesn’t even scratch the surface - Abbotsford, Dryburgh Abbey and all the other Borders towns have much to offer.
