I had a great experience. Everyone I interacted with was very friendly and helpful.
I walked almost everywhere, from the cloud forest to a coffee farm (Café La Bella Tica, highly recommended), to the downtown Santa Elena area. I like walking, so the location was fine for me (I averaged about 10.5 miles per day).
They have one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. It starts with fresh fruit (banana, pineapple and guava), and then you have a choice of 4 options: a traditional Costa Rican breakfast, pancakes, toast and eggs, or huevos rancheros. I didn't have the toast, but everything else was exceptional.
The restaurant was also very good. I highly recommend the grilled chicken with black pepper sauce or the grilled sea bass.
The facilities are well-maintained and clean. While I was there, they were repainting the walls along the walkway and they tended to the grounds (bush and tree trimming, mowing, etc). They cleaned my room when I asked them to and avoided it when I asked them not to.
I could not have had a better experience. I highly recommend the Trapp Family Lodge.
