This was our first excursion to Lake Winnipesaukee and the surrounding area. I probably looked at around 20 different hotels/B & B's before deciding on the Lake Opechee Inn and Spa...And I made the right choice...This was the absolute BEST property to stay in the area!
Coming from Rhode Island, we were initially a bit disappointed with the area around Laconia but after you head in the direction of Weir's Beach it all become nice indeed. Plus, you're only 48 minutes away from the White Mountains (Flume Gorge etc.). So, the Lake Opechee Inn is ideally strategically located to both tourist areas.
We stayed in the deluxe room closest to the lake, and it was both spacious and clean. Some of the upsides included the whirlpool, comfortable bedding, nice chairs, a fireplace, and a deck with a view.
The downsides (but not deal killers by any stretch) included no cleaning of our room (we had to get fresh towels etc. from the front desk), a smallish standup shower with no hand-held sprayer, small television (by today's standards), and a subpar breakfast. It's actually a pity that they don't offer a buffet in the adjoining restaurant because I would have happily paid the extra for a hot breakfast with eggs and bacon.
Speaking of the restaurant...it's outstanding! The bartender was very helpful, and the food was delicious. Definitely, visit this more upscale restaurant at least one of your nights!
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Lake Opechee Inn and Spa (9.5/10).
