Tunamaya doesn’t fall in the high end group of resorts but it sufficed. We were mostly outside doing activities like fruit farms, firefly sightseeing and ATV rides. The view and proximity to the beach is wonderful and convenient. The food at the cafe and Nelayan restaurant was first-rate. Proximity to Wood-fire restaurant is definitely a plus when my kids crave for fast-food. The front office staff were friendly and nice.
Areas to improve in:
1. Was made to wait till 3 pm before we can check-in, we came in the early morning ferry (only one ferry timing in a day). But they let us check in our bags. Next time, will drop the bags and start heading out.
2. Buffet was first-come, first-serve. Limited space in the dining area. We had no choice but to sit outside at the non-air-con area. Fans were too few and the sun shone in, it got unbearably hot.
3. Would be great if they could arrange for car rentals. We took grab/taxi everywhere we went.
Overall, desaru offered a good getaway destination if you want to miss the queues at the causeway. Apart from the minor inconveniences, I enjoyed my family time at TunaMaya.
