This is a magical little Ryokan in the mountains! Several onsen options available - private, inside, outside, mixed sex, single sex. The outside onsen have fantastic views of the mountains and forests, and really feel like they're in the middle of nature.
The b&b/ryokan is very clean and in the traditional style which is a wonderful experience. The family had a pot of tea ready when we arrived and coffee and a homemade biscuit when we left (the daughter is a pastry chef trained in Italy!). The breakfast was really delicious. The beds are comfy and warm.
The best part is the family running it who are fantastic! They were very helpful, kind, and friendly. We felt so welcomed and at home, it was lovely. We felt like we were visiting friends and it has been the highlight of our trip.
Access is very easy - direct bus from Takayama or two buses from Matsumoto. There's a bus a 15 mins walk away every hour or a bus stop about 5 mins away every 3 hours. Lots of walks in the area, the shinhodaka ropeway for the views, public and private onsen, open air hot spring footbaths, nature etc and not too touristy. Fab place.
